Private school or public school?  This is a debate which has been going on for years and no one really has seemed to make much headway. According to a recent poll, one in four parents is either considering switching his or her child from public to private school or from private to public school. Is one really batter than the other or are we simply comparing apples and oranges?

Round Rock private schools and public schools are certainly different, which isn’t all that surprising. After all, most individuals agree that private school and public school have significant differences. However there are misconceptions about both schools which cloud people’s ability to make a schooled decision about which school is right for their youngster. Many parents have a bias for one over the other. For example, some individuals believe that private schools automatically provide everything that is superior to public education, justifying the cost of yearly tuition. Others believe that public school offers real-life experiences and does not segregate students socioeconomically.

Regardless of these implications there are fundamental differences between Round Rock public schools and private schools. The biggest difference between public school and private school is money, money, money. Public schools cannot charge tuition. Private schools can. Public schools are often underfunded or suffer from poorly managed funds and receive their funding primarily from the State. Private schools have to generate their own funds. In general these sources of funding come from a wide range of places: parents, fundraising, grants, and other sources, such as community members or private citizens or even religious groups.

Round Rock private schools are generally much more independent and specialized than public schools because they are not regulated in the same manner by the State. Public schools, since they are funded through taxes, must follow regulations set forth by the State, whereas private schools do not. Because private schools do not receive tax money, they are more independent. Private schools can offer a wide range of curricula that public schools cannot offer. In some cases those curricula may be centered around religious beliefs or may offer specialized interests such as organic gardening or music, or, you name it. The sky’s the limit.

Another distinction is admissions. Public schools have to, by law, accept all children, no exceptions. However it can be difficult to enroll your child into the public school that you choose. For example, if your child has special needs such as a learning disability it may be difficult to find a public school that can accommodate him or her. On the other hand, a private school may be so small that while it can accommodate your child’s needs, it may not have room for him or her. Private schools also tend to have more stringent admission requirements.
