MAIF means Maryland Auto Insurance Fund created by Maryland State Legislature in 1972 for the purpose of providing liability insurance and physical damage insurance to drivers who encounter difficulty in getting auto insurance coverage from private carriers due to their driving records. MAIF is an independent entity from the state of Maryland as it does not receive state funding nor has it any obligation or debts to the state. In order to obtain coverage the driver must have the following requirements:

 * The driver was unable to obtain auto insurance coverage from a private carrier

 * Must be a Maryland resident

 * The driver’s license and car registration has both been issued in Maryland

Roadway Auto Insurance is the agency that provides Maryland Auto Insurance Fund services. In order to gain auto insurance coverage, the driver must be able to demonstrate that he has failed to obtain auto insurance coverage from two private insurance companies for other reasons except nonpayment. No one should be denied coverage and MAIF will provide the coverage on an immediate basis. Roadway will provide the FR-19 which acknowledges that the minimum vehicle liability insurance will be maintained throughout the registration period and that the car will not be driven without the insurance.

SR-22 or Certificate of Financial Liability is required for drivers who have been convicted for DUI or reckless driving including accidents caused by uninsured drivers. This is mandated by both the state and the courts only for these certain driving related violations to make it possible for them to register or renew a vehicle registration.

Companies that finance car purchases require that drivers purchase the necessary insurance coverage to protect their financial interests in the car. For drivers who are unable to gain coverage from the private carriers, Maryland Auto Insurance Fund will make sure that the interests of both the driver and the financing company are protected by issuing the minimum insurance requirements. In Maryland the minimum auto insurance requirement is 30/60/15 which is $30,000 to $60,000 per person bodily damage in a single accident and $15,000 for property damage. Roadway specialist will see to it that the driver gets the minimum insurance requirements.

How to save on Maryland Auto Insurance Fund

 * Drive safely according to state laws and avoid reckless driving or DUI /DWI convictions

 * Increase the deductibles meaning that if there are claims, the driver will be willing to pay for a portion of the claims from out of his own pockets. The higher the deductibles, the lower the premiums to be paid to MAIF Insurance.

 * Select the minimum coverage. Cancel the comprehensive and collision coverage.
