In many cases, some kind of trash-removal system will be in place when you need it, whether you’re a residential or business customer. However, sometimes you’re faced with the kind of job that can’t be handled with a regular dumpster or trash can! One of the easiest and most convenient solutions is using a roll off dumpster. A company that offers roll off service can provide you with a dumpster of appropriate size to fit your needs, and can then provide the removal service to collect and dispose of it. This can be a great one-time or ongoing solution for construction, renovation projects, landscaping, or any other time when you have a large volume of trash or debris that you need to remove from your property.

A roll off dumpster is an open top container, generally rectangular in size. They’re also on wheels, so that they can be moved to the ideal location for your needs. They come in various sizes, measured in cubic yards, which tells you how much debris, trash, or other material the dumpster will be able to hold. Generally they come in 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 cubic yard sizes. You want to determine how large a roll off container you’ll need ahead of time. You don’t want to order a container that’s too small for your needs, since you may fill it too quickly. But at the same time you’ll need somewhere to place the dumpster while you fill it; one that’s too large for the space you have isn’t going to help you either. Also be sure to inquire about weight limits, if those are applicable, especially if you’ll need to use it for very heavy materials like concrete or stone.

Another thing you’ll want to determine in advance is a pick up schedule. Most companies will be able to help you with this once they know what kind of job the roll off is needed for, but it’s worth thinking about ahead of time. You probably want the dumpster to be picked up shortly after you’ll have filled it, rather than having the full container sitting around for days or weeks. But there’s no sense in having it picked up before it’s full, either. In some cases this may be a one-time thing, like a tree removal, or a minor household renovation that doesn’t require an ongoing schedule. Other projects may be much longer in duration and require multiple pick-ups.

Make sure that you have somewhere appropriate to place a roll off before you decide to use one. In addition to having the right sized space, you need one with an appropriate surface. It requires a hard surface, but not dirt. Dirt can far too easily turn to mud, which can keep the company from being able to remove the container. Asphault or concrete work well as surfaces, but can sometimes be scratched by the metal wheels of the container. If this is a concern for you, you can put plywood down to protect the surface.

Especially if you can figure out some of these answers ahead of time, finding the right company to help you can make this an easy solution for larger waste-removal needs.
