LED lights have been a bit of a revelation. They cast a surprising amount of light for being rather small and energy conscious. For those not in the know an LED is a light emitting diode. Because they cast so much light for their size and are so energy efficient they’ve caught on for a number of different applications. One advantage of using so little power is that they can run off of batteries, or there are even Solar LED lights. In an age where energy efficiency is such a virtue LEDs deserve recognition for being able to provide it in rather meaningful ways with day to day application.

LEDs have allowed lighting to be spread and put in more remote areas. If you tried to run a normal incandescent or a florescent light bulb off of a battery charged from solar power it would run the battery dry very quickly. Whereas LEDs can provide hours of light off of the charge provided. Solar LED lights allow a lot of different practical and decorative options. Anything truly useful needs to be able to do both, fulfill the decorative desires, and the practical needs, even small ones.

You can have a string of different colored LEDs as a season decoration, or a non seasonal one, and you can do it without having to worry about keeping a battery in the lights fresh, or stringing wire to and fro across your yard. Or you can use them as garden lights to cast extra light on the front or back yard at night. Solar LED lights can be put into the decorative icicles and hung from trees instead of just from the front of the house where they have easy access to outlets. It’s not just the icicles either, they can be put in floating pods that sit on the water and provide a beautiful effect, or they can be used to replace a candle light lantern for general outdoors illumination.

Solar LED lights are possible because of improvements to solar panels, but also because the efficiency to light produced of LEDs. The ability of both have improved so much that the old joke about solar powered flash lights is an actuality. There’s something to be said for that sort of advancement when something used to be thought of as so preposterous it was used as a joke for stupidity, and is now an actual product. Not only is it an actual product, but it, and similar forms (lanterns, floating lights, and electric torches) are actually in common usage.
